Criteria for evaluating information on the Web

There are 5 criteria to help you choose the best information for your assignment.
Each criteria have questions for you to refer to decide whether the information is reliable or not.
 

The 5 criteria of CRAAP

#1 Currency

  1. How timely is the information?
  2. When was it written?
  3. Do you require current sources?
  4. If you require current sources, is the information up to date?

#2 Relevance

  1. Is the information appropriate for your topic and assignment?
  2. What types of sources does your assignment require?
  3. Does it cover the topic you are researching?

#3 Authority

  1. What is the source of the information?
  2. Who is the author?
  3. What are their credentials (Education, research expertise, employment experience)?
  4. Who is the publisher? (Academic or commercial)
  5. What are their value and goals?

#4 Accuracy

  1. How reliable is the information?
  2. Can you verify the facts with other sources?
  3. Has the information been reviewed or refereed?

#5 Purpose

  1. Why was the information published?
  2. Was it created to inform and educate? Or to state an opinion?
